Frequently Asked Questions

The scorekeeper

How does AI score counting work?
Point your camera at your dominoes using the camera icon in the app. Our AI will automatically detect and count the pips in real-time as the dominoes appear in view. Make sure the dominoes are clearly visible and well-lit for best results.
What's included in the free version?
The free version includes basic score tracking for 2-4 players and limited themes. You get 3 free AI counting uses per game, and you can watch a short video to unlock 3 more whenever you need them — or upgrade to Premium for unlimited AI counting with no ads. You can play unlimited games! The game (iOS 26+) is free to play too: free players may see an ad after a finished game, never during one.
What does Premium include?
Premium unlocks unlimited AI counting, ad-free experience, tournament mode, all themes and animations, game sharing, and custom scoreboard backgrounds (iOS 26+ & Android) on both platforms. On iOS you also get iCloud sync, plus widgets & Live Activity and saved Name Styles on iOS 26 or later — these are coming to Android in a future update. Live Share & Transfer hosting is Premium on both iOS 26+ and Android; joining a shared game and using the Game Timer are free for everyone on both platforms. Recurring subscriptions (Monthly, 6-Month, Annual) include a 14-day free trial. Lifetime Access requires immediate one-time payment with no trial.
Does the 14-day free trial apply to all Premium options?
No. The 14-day free trial only applies to recurring subscriptions (Monthly, 6-Month, and Annual plans). If you choose Lifetime Access, it's a one-time payment with no trial period, but you get permanent Premium access forever.
How do I add widgets to my home screen? (Premium, iOS 26+ only)
Widgets are currently available on iPhone and iPad running iOS 26 or later. Long-press on your home screen, tap the "+" button in the top left, search for "Magic Domino", and select the widget size you want. You can add widgets to your home screen or lock screen to see your live scores! Widget support for Android is planned for a future update.
What is Live Activity? (Premium, iOS 26+ only)
Live Activity displays your current game score in real-time on your lock screen and Dynamic Island. When you start a new game with Premium, your live score automatically appears! It updates as you add points during the game.
How do I add Quick Points from my Lock Screen or Dynamic Island? (Premium, iOS 26+ only)
With Premium and iOS 26+, when you have an active game, you'll see Live Activity on your Lock Screen and Dynamic Island. Simply tap the Quick Points button to add points without opening the app. You can also undo your last score directly from there!
How do I customize my scoreboard background? (Premium, iOS 26+ & Android)
On iPhone and iPad running iOS 26 or later, and on Android, go to Settings → Scoreboard Background → Select Photo. Choose a photo from your library, adjust the opacity and blur to your liking, and save! Your photo is stored locally on your device and never uploaded to our servers.
Why can't I see the custom background or widget features?
Both are Premium features, so first make sure you have an active Premium subscription. Beyond that:
  • Custom Backgrounds are available on Android and on iPhone or iPad running iOS 26 or later. Make sure your device meets these requirements.
  • Widgets & Live Activity currently require iPhone or iPad on iOS 26 or later. They are not yet available on Android and are planned for a future update.
How do I restore my Premium purchase?
Go to Settings → tap "Upgrade" → On the paywall screen, tap "Restore Purchase" at the top right. On iOS your purchase is tied to your Apple ID; on Android it's tied to your Google account. It will be restored automatically as long as you're signed in to the same account you purchased with.
Can I sync my games across devices?
On iOS, yes — with a Premium subscription, your game history syncs automatically via iCloud across all your Apple devices. Cross-device sync is not yet available on Android, but it's planned for a future update. On all platforms, your game history is always saved locally on your device.
How do I cancel my subscription?
On iOS, subscriptions are managed through Apple: Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions → Magic Domino → Cancel Subscription. On Android, they're managed through Google Play: open Google Play → tap your profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Magic Domino → Cancel.
How does Tournament Mode work?
Create a tournament with any number of teams from 2 to 32 — it does not have to be a round number. Pick your format: single elimination (one game decides each match), a best-of-3, 5, or 7 series, or double elimination, where a team has to lose twice before it is out. The app builds the bracket, works out the byes for you when the team count isn't a power of two, and tracks winners through every round until a champion is crowned!
Can I share my games with friends?
Yes, in three ways. On iOS 26 or later and on Android, tap the share button on the scoreboard: Share Live opens a room so others can follow the score on their own phones as you play, Send a Copy hands a game or tournament to another device, and Enter Code lets you join a game someone else is sharing. You can also share a game result as an image at any time. It works the same on iPhone, iPad, and Android, and you can share between them.
How does Live Share work? (iOS 26+ & Android — hosting needs Premium)
Start a game, tap the share button in the header, and choose Share Live. You'll get a short code and a QR code. Hosting a session needs Premium, but the people watching don't need it at all — anyone you give the code to can enter it — or scan the QR from the Counter screen — and watch your scoreboard update in real time on their own phone. No more leaning over to see someone else's screen. Everyone can follow along whether they're sitting at the same table or somewhere else entirely.
Does Live Share need an internet connection?
Not always. If everyone is on the same Wi-Fi network, phones connect to each other directly over that network and nothing goes through the internet at all — handy at a house with patchy service. When someone is somewhere else, the game is relayed through our server so it can reach them. The first time you use Live Share on the same network, iOS asks for Local Network permission and Android asks to find nearby devices. You can decline either one and Live Share will still work through the relay.
Who can see my game when I share it live?
Only people who have your share code. Treat it like a door key — anyone holding it can watch, so give it out only to people you want following along. Viewers can see the game as it appears on your scoreboard: team names, scores, round history, and the timer if you have it on. They can watch, but they can't change anything. Ending the session closes the room and stops all sharing immediately. Since team names are whatever you type in, use nicknames if you'd rather not share real ones. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
How do I show the bracket on a TV? (free, no app needed)
Any screen with a web browser can become the tournament board — a smart TV, a laptop on HDMI, or a spare phone. On that screen, open magicdomino.com, choose Watch Live, and type the 6-character room code from the host's share screen. That's it: no app to install, no account, and nothing for the viewer to pay. The page connects on its own, so the host's phone doesn't have to stay plugged in or even stay in the room — it can go back in a pocket and the board keeps updating. It follows your browser's language automatically and reads right-to-left in Arabic and Urdu. If you reload or the signal drops for a moment, the standings come straight back instead of flashing an empty screen.
How long does a share code last?
A live room stays open for as long as you keep the session running — close it and the code stops working. A code used to send a copy of a game is single-use: once the other device claims the game, the code is spent, and unclaimed codes expire on their own.
Why don't I see Live Share, Name Styles, or the Game Timer?
Live Share and the Game Timer are available on Android and on iPhone or iPad running iOS 26 or later. Name Styles is iOS 26+ only for now and is planned for Android in a future update. On iOS 17 or 18 the app works fully, but none of these appear.

Premium requirements differ: the Game Timer is free for everyone (and off by default — turn it on in Settings → Game Timer). Name Style presets are free; saving your own custom styles needs Premium. For Live Share, hosting a session or sending a copy needs Premium, but joining someone else's game with a code is always free.
How do I style team names? (iOS 26+ only — presets free, saving needs Premium)
Touch and hold a team name on the scoreboard to open the Name Style center. Pick one of the built-in presets, or touch and hold a preset to customize it — font, color, effect (glow, shadow, outline, or stacked), effect strength, and uppercase. The built-in presets are free; saving your own custom styles requires Premium. Everything is stored on your device. Name Styles is not yet on Android and is planned for a future update.
What does the Game Timer show? (iOS 26+ & Android, free for everyone)
It's off by default; turn it on in Settings → Game Timer. Once on, a clock appears in the header showing how long the game has been going, starting from the first score added. In Tournament mode it also times each match and the tournament as a whole, including breaks between matches. Elapsed time appears on share cards too, so it's included when you share a game result. Timestamps are already saved with your games, so switching the timer on mid-game still shows the true elapsed time.
The AI isn't counting correctly. What should I do?
Make sure your dominoes are:
  • Well-lit and clearly visible in the camera view
  • Not overlapping each other
  • Against a contrasting background
  • Held steady for the AI to detect them
If issues persist, you can always manually enter the score.
Is my photo safe when I use a custom background?
Absolutely! When you select a photo for your scoreboard background, it's compressed and stored locally on your device only. Your photos are never uploaded to our servers or shared with anyone. You have complete control and can remove the custom background anytime.

The game

What is the game in Magic Domino, and where do I find it?
Magic Domino is two rooms in one app. The scorekeeper counts and keeps the score of the game you play with a real set at a real table. The game lets you play dominoes on the phone itself — against the computer, with friends nearby or anywhere, or through a whole tournament. Open the Play tab. The game runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS 26 or later.
Which domino games can I play?
Ten tables, each with its own real rules: Dominican (the default), Puerto Rican, Classic, Cuban (double-nine, 55 tiles), Fives, Brazilian, Jamaican, Kozel, Turkish and Gaple. Pick a table from Table setup on the home screen — the words, the calls and the scoring on the table follow it. Tap the book in the corner for that table's illustrated rulebook, one card per rule, drawn with the game's own tiles.
How do I play a tile?
Tiles you can play glow on your rack. Tap one to play it when only one end of the line takes it. When both ends take it, both light up — tap the end you want, or drag the tile there. If you can't play, the knock happens by itself, because there is nothing to decide. At a table that draws from the pile, tap the pile to draw.
How good is the computer? Does it cheat?
It never cheats. No computer ever looks at your hand or at the pile — the Hard level works out what you might be holding from what has been played and who knocked on what, exactly like a strong player does. Easy, Medium and Hard are measured against each other over thousands of hands rather than guessed. When you play in partners, your partner plays at full strength at every level, because a teammate who sits on their doubles isn't an easier game, it's a worse one.
How do I play with friends or other people?
Open the Online card and tap Start a table: your table opens right away, and you set the game there. Tap an empty chair to send the link — friends tap it and sit down. When everyone is seated, tap Deal. Got a code? Enter code takes you to that table. A friend’s table on the same Wi-Fi shows up on the Online card itself — tap Sit down. Quick Match finds strangers playing the same game you chose — one on one, two against two, or a four-player free-for-all. It seats people only and deals by itself once every chair is filled.
How does an online table connect?
Friends on the same Wi-Fi connect straight to the host’s phone, and everyone else joins over the internet with the same code; if the internet is down, the table can open on the Wi-Fi alone. At a friends’ table, computers can fill the empty chairs once at least one other person has sat down. A small light — beside the word Online at the top of the table, and on the × during a game — shows the connection: green when the table is open or everyone is connected, amber while somebody is reconnecting, red if the table can’t be reached. The host’s phone runs the table, so if the host closes the app, the table closes and everyone else is told.
What is the Daily Deal?
It’s on the Play home, under the cards. Every day, everyone gets the same tiles: a Dominican game to 100, you and a Hard computer partner against two Hard computers. Only your first game of the day counts — if you leave early, it counts as it stood, and a win always ranks above a loss. Tap Play it again to practise as often as you like; your counted score stays the same. Your score is your side’s points. Share it with a link, and if you use Game Center, open the Leaderboard to see where you rank today, Challenge friends to beat it, and earn achievements. Game Center is Apple’s service: Magic Domino never receives your Game Center ID. A new deal arrives every day at 04:00 UTC — midnight in the Dominican Republic. The Daily Deal is part of the game, which needs iOS 26 or later.
Do I need a name? Who sees it?
No. A name is optional, and you can play forever without one. Nobody sees a name at a computer table but you. Online, the people at your table see it — so pick something you're happy for strangers to read. Tap your own seat to set, change or remove it at any time. Names are checked before they are shown: no hate speech, slurs, harassment or impersonation. Full details in our Privacy Policy.
Someone at my table has an offensive name or is behaving badly. What can I do?
Tap the ⋯ beside their name — or, during a game, tap 💬 and then ⋯ on their row — and choose Report or Block. If it was a voice note or their photo, choose that as the reason: the note or photo goes with the report. Blocking is immediate and lives on your device: Quick Match will never seat the two of you together again. Reports reach us and are reviewed within 24 hours; offending names and photos are removed. You can also email [email protected]. Blocking works both ways — if someone blocks you, Quick Match keeps you apart too.
How do voice notes work?
At an online table with other people, hold the microphone button beside 💬 and talk — up to five seconds — then let go to send it; slide your finger away before letting go to cancel. Everyone at the table hears it once. To quiet one player, tap 💬 and mute them; Mute voice notes there quiets everyone at that table, and Play settings → Voice notes from others turns them off on your phone at every table. The host of a friends' table can switch voice notes off for the whole table. Voice notes are for players 13 and up, follow your phone's silent switch, and are not kept — unless another player reports one, in which case that note is kept for 30 days so we can review it.
Can I use my own photo at the table?
Yes, on iOS 26 or later. Tap your seat — or your name on the Play home — then Use a photo to choose one or take one. It is checked automatically before anyone sees it: no nudity, violence, hate symbols, drugs or rude gestures. Photos are for players 13 and up, and you need an internet connection to add one. Remove photo takes it down at once, and the other players see one of the built-in faces instead. Details in our Privacy Policy.
What can I buy in the game's shop?
Tap the shop button at the top of the Play home. Packs change how the game looks — Tables & Tiles, Frames & Emblems and Celebrations, or all three as The Collection, which costs less. They are one-time purchases, and nothing you buy changes the rules or helps you win. Tap Try free for 24 hours to watch a short video and wear a pack for a day first. Premium includes every pack. Bought one on another device? Tap Restore purchases in the shop.
Is the game available on Android?
Not yet. Today the game runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS 26 or later. The scorekeeper is available on both iOS and Android, and the two stay in step: a Live Share between an iPhone and an Android phone works as it always has.
Do the games I play count in History? What if I close the app mid-game?
Finished games are filed in History with a Play badge, right beside the games you scored at a real table; tap one to see its final card again. Walking out of a game mid-hand files nothing. If you close the app during a game against the computer, the next time you open the Play tab it asks whether you want to pick up where you left off. Online tables aren't kept — they live only while the host keeps them open.
